Irrevocably severed

“We don’t love by chance, we love by choice. When it’s hard, we dig in and choose each other.”

For the record, this statement is accurate, because loving other humans is hard.
It’s work.
It’s messy.
It is a choice.

But I’m going to stop right there and tell you right now, if your love is toxic, if it is killing you slowly and you struggle every single day with a person who refuses to choose you back, baby, move on.

You are not giving up.
You are loving yourself in ways that should be freaking celebrated.
You deserve a medal, a prize, hell, even just a bottle of wine.

You don’t deserve nasty looks, lies and lost friendships.
You don’t deserve a strangers harassment in public.
You don’t deserve to suffer continuously from others choices.
You don’t deserve blame and shame and guilt.

You took a look at your life and decided that YOU needed to step away.
To be a better parent, to be a better human, to have a voice, a choice, a chance.

You are brave.
You are strong.

We should be throwing you a damn parade!!

No human, who truly loves you, will compromise your humanity.

I want you to know that there is life after leaving.
It’s not always fun, but it is full and new and your possibilities are endless.

PS. I’m making T-shirts and forming float ideas for this parade. Dates pending.

Awkwardly yours,
Meg
